MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY
Thoughts Matter
Don't be afraid to look inside. Healing starts by connecting with yourself once again, a skill many of us seem to lose when no longer children. It takes courage. Healing does not happen overnight. As with the physical body, you need the right tools to overcome any ailment. Medications can be a prop to help you along this path, but it'd be more realistic to understand they are only an aid.
Certain mental health conditions may require medication for a lifetime. There's always hope by allowing your body and mind's natural healing powers to take hold. We are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings. True health comes from being healthy in all areas. We neglect them at our own peril, but it need not be. Start your journey by taking a first step, and don't worry today about what tomorrow may bring.

IDEAL JOB DESCRIPTION
My ideal place of practice would include a combination of inpatient and outpatient care. It'd be located in an area away from the city, in the open country where patients could enjoy the peace of nature, fresh air and sunshine in a haven away from the chaos. My position title would be owner, CEO, PMHNP.

The population I serve would include all age groups and social and ethnic groups. The focus would be on those who have more difficulty gaining access to the necessary healthcare.
​My job would be to continue to see patients on a regular basis, while leading a health center as owner and/or CEO to enlarge our capacity to serve an even wider number of people through capacity and innovation. Benefits would include the best health coverage, vision and dental that would include family. It'd have a 401K and matching, as well as life insurance.
CERTIFICATION PLAN FOR APPLICATION
My certification plan is to first submit an application for validation to the ANCC. According to the registrar in charge of the process at the ANCC, the application can only be submitted once the program's required clinical hours are fulfilled.

Once this is done, I can be validated within a short time. Afterwards I can schedule the certification exam for the first available date. Once I pass the exam I can send the results to the Idaho Board of Nursing.
LICENSURE APPLICATION WITH PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORIZATION PLAN
My plan is to have my official transcripts sent to the Idaho Board of Nursing as soon as they're available. Once this is done then I'd qualify for a temporary license, pending the outcome of the certification exam.

Once this is done I'd wait to submit the exam results in order to be granted a regular license. As soon as this is done I'd apply for an NPI and DEA. Around this time I'd also apply for an X-waiver to prescribe Suboxone.
CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RECORD
I will fill this section with evidence of CEs earned from UpToDate and the Neuroscience Education Institute among other sources.

NATIONAL PROVIDER PLAN FOR APPLICATION
I plan to apply for the NPI as soon as I receive evidence of having been granted certification. I anticipate that my first employer would also help expedite the process by being more experienced in these matters.
MALPRACTICE INSURANCE
I plan to get occurrence-based malpractice insurance with the minimum required amount or more, and would probably opt for the higher amount as long as the value made sense.
TIMELINE FOR DEVELOPING ROLE AS NP
a. Certification: I plan to be fully certified by mid-June to early July at the latest.
b. Certification Review Plan: I plan to complete exam questions offered by Board Vitals, the ANCC question bank, review materials from Momentrix, and take the Fitzgerald Review. There's a host of material to cover, so I'd have to prioritize completing the questions from the ANCC and the Fitzgerald Review. Everything else is just a bonus.
c. Achieve licensure by mid-June to early July.
d. Prescriptive Authorization: Depending on how long this really takes, I'd apply immediately after certification. I've heard it can take a day and as much as several weeks.
e. Application for Controlled Substance (DEA and state): This will be done immediately upon certification.
f. National Provider Number Application: This will also be done immediately after certification. The timeline really will depend on how fast the process is.
